last wednesday, the kiddo and i packed up and journeyed over to Selah, Wa to visit my in-laws! i was a tad nervous about the drive, the longest H had been on and also i was alone. but she did amazing! after storytime and a short playdate with a new friend (more on that at a later date!), i gave her a big bottle, stripped her down to a onesie and we were on our way. she passed out before we even hit the freeway. awesome.
she woke up about an hour and half into the drive and talked to herself quietly for the rest of the way. it was amazing. we got to Selah and Mel (my father in law) took us ladies out for some authentic mexican food. it was so good! tiny tiny place, but you can see the grandma making your food from scratch, including making the tortillas. delicious.
it was a really great trip. Bobbi (who’s name is actually Angela, my mama-in-law, but her grandkids call her Bobbi since my nephew Sage gave her that name as a baby – and no, they have no idea where he came up with it!) got to hold, snuggle, feed, change, cuddle and play with Harper for 2.5 glorious days!

we had a target trip (where bobbi more than spoiled miss H – pictures to come of her new dwell studio ensembles), a trip to the yakima mall (we walked for a minute and then Angela exclaimed “ok, we’re at the end of the mall”), and my first ever Sonic experience. afer sonic we went to a cool park with a huge pond and there had to be over 100 ducks and like 50 canadian geese there.
Bobbi was carrying H and letting her play with the straw of her cherry limade chiller (p.s. YUM). i didn’t think anything of it because hello, harper doesn’t know ow to drink out of a straw. then we saw pink oozing from her mouth – she figured it out! she got 3 HUGE sips in while i tried to pry it from her chubby hands, then threw a huge tantrum.
so funny. friday before we headed out, we went to barrett farms, an orchard with tons of fresh fruit. we scooped up some peaches to take home. it was sad to leave, but we were having an ordeal at home with our frenchie, Lulu. she was really sick and at the emergency vet all day thursday. i felt awful for Scot having to deal with it alone (Lulu is HIS dog), so i thought it best to head out. but we’ll head back really soon! i hope to make another trip out in the next month, now that i know she can handle the drive just fine. it was wonderful to spend quality time with Scot’s parents, i just love them to pieces.

Harper had her 9 month appointment with Dr. Lavinder yesterday. i was beyond stoked to hear she didn’t have to have any shots! she was in a great mood, dancing and waving her arms wildly for the nurses, eliciting many comments of how lucky i am to have such an easygoing baby. word!
Dr. Lavinder says she is doing perfect. she is still right on track with everything. she said her weight is low for her age, but that is normal for the 9 month mark – with less formula and more movement. but she looks fine to me…more than fine :] so here are the stats:
weight : 18lb 5oz
height : 27 3/4 inches
noggin : 18 inches
i almost cried making her 1 year appointment. it just doesn’t seem right! this morning she was sitting in her highchair telling me a story (yeah it’s jibberish, but if you heard it, it sounds like she is really saying something) and feeding herself puffs. i was just looking at her like “who are you?”.
in my old lady voice: “they grow up so fast”.

Em and i used to have Friendship Fridays back in the day. we’d meet for coffee, go shopping, wear big sunglasses and drink martinis, then meet up with the dudes for dinner. it was rad and we did it every friday. we’d talk about babies and how we couldn’t wait to have them. we’d go around finding stuff for her wedding and gossiping about people. it was awesome! i really miss those days, but now we have the babies we wanted so badly, and they are just as fun. now our FF’s are FM’s or FT’s or FW’s – whatever day we can manage to get both babies to be cooperative! yesterday was one of them.

well the weather has finally cooled down a bit. i actually had to turn off the a/c this morning and put pj pants on instead of shorts. and the kid finally wore real clothes! it was a nice change of pace to not see her sweaty little head.
after a full day of chasing her around the house, Scot came home and took us out for dinner. it was really nice because usually our evenings consist of him falling asleep on the floor still in his work clothes (i’m not dissin’, i’m saying the guy is tired beyond exhausted), waking up for dinner and then heading to bed. i was able to take a nice long (hot, for the first time in weeks) shower while he listened for the kiddo to wake up from her nap, then we got ready and headed to tanglewood for dinner. i had a stupid-good bacon cheeseburger with garlic fries and washed it down with a glass of chardonnay (what? i’m really classy like that). Harper enjoyed her Mum Mum while testing out her new ear piercing scream. yeah, people think she’s being hurt (or murdered) but she has a huge smile on her face while letting out a banchee-like squeal. good times!
tangent : why is it that when you bring a baby into a restaurant the host/ess asks you if you need a kids menu or crayons? uh, it’s a baby. this happens everywhere i go. tonight, she was in her carseat when we came in. why would she need a menu!? one place even offered to bring her a bowl of olives. really? olives? really?
anyways, after a totes yummy dinner, we went for a walk by the water.

after a nice stroll (and a weird lady offering to take our picture – thanks weird lady!!!) we headed to the ol’ 31 flavors for some ice cream. 2 scoops of jamocha in a waffle cone + the dinner i had = the 5 lbs i lost in the extreme heat shot to heck. oh well, totally worth it to hang out with my 2 favorite people!
