the one where we traumatize our child for the sake of memories.

Y es, it’s January. yes, this post has photographs of Harper with santa. no, you have not jumped in the delorean (but how cool would it be if you had? holler back michael j. fox!). it’s just that today, after weeks of wondering when i’d get a call saying the photos were done yet never getting one, i decided to go find out for myself. i mean, it was weeks ago we had these taken and i never even told the story because i thought i’d wait until we had the pics (in my mind this occurred before christmas…but apparently these jokers had other ideas. like just NOT calling people).

turns out they’d been sitting there since the 20th of december. if my kid had actually been smiling in these photos, i would have made a bigger stink about it, but she hated every red jolly second of it, so i digressed.

scot and i thought she’d have no problem with santa. she has very little stranger anxiety and is a very social baby toddler (give me time people, give me time), so we figured she’s sit down, poke him, maybe tug his beard. ha. haha. HAHAHAHAHA.

she flipped. red face, shaking, lip quivering, WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME SIT ON THIS FAT OLD GUY I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME!, scream-cry. the following photo was made possible by the fact that somehow the photographer had a fast enough camera to catch her in mid-breath (aka, preparing for the next wrath). so she looks more, um, calm than she actually was. my favorite part? santa holding one of her tiny fingers (as if to make her feel safer? ok…)

santa? he was visibly shaken up. he even muttered “i hope she doesn’t have nightmares about me” and after placing his hand on his belly stated “it just breaks my heart”. i was actually sweating when we left (something i notice happens instantly when she does something that surprises me, which should make for a real interesting next couple of years rest of my life). it was bad, my friends. nevertheless, her “i match santa” collared dress and black patent mary janes make up totally for the fact that she might hate us forever.

for funsies, here is her pic from last year, at just 6 weeks old.

don’t they both look more relaxed in ’08? i mean, yeah, H looks like she might be making christmas cookies in her diaper, but in those days, pooping was a lot more relaxing than it is nowadays.

    It’s … it’s …. it’s the SAME Santa! That’s just AMAZING!

As usual, the nugget looks adorable. Love the frou-frou collar.

Priceless! My daughter wasn’t too crazy about him either. If you think about it from their perspective, I can see why it’s scary. My daughter was up all night after she saw Santa….my husband swears she had nightmares of him in his big red suit :)

warning: most babies I know who are ages 1 and 2 are TERRIFIED of the jolly, fat man. Good luck next year. Maybe Harper will be the exception to the rule. question: will the same Santa be around? I love the pic anyway!!

My little one is about 6 months older the Harper and we STILL haven’t gone to see Santa yet…not really by choice, she’s been nothing but sick around that time. We’ll see how this year goes…I am imagining a pic a lot like yours!!
