it’s the little things.

E very so often, Harper does something that makes me cry. a few times, it’s been frustrated tears (why the %@$# are you throwing those pancakes on the ground THOSE are your FAVORITE?!), but the majority of the time, i cry because she is growing up and doing something cute. watching your child learn is by far the most gratifying part of parenthood. especially when it is kindness.

tonight she did something so cute and sweet that i need to blog about it so i won’t ever forget. because really? the internet never forgets, and frankly, i do. (p.s.? super glad the internet won’t ever forget my rad blazer).

Harper was all jammied up and ready for bed. i had put all her toys away in their basket while Scot got her set for tie-tie (that’d be night-night, and yes, our babytalk is stellar) and they came downstairs so she could hang for a few minutes before we put her down. she walked over to her toys and started taking them out. at first i was going to object (i mean hello kid, i just put those away). but she took one of the “treats” from her tea set (one that she usually puts to her mouth and says “mmm”), walked over to Scot with it proudly held in front of her and offered it to him. he said “oh, thank you!”, she smiled, turned and gibbered “oh yeah gibby jibby hey” as she headed back for the toys.

i kid you not, for the next half hour, she one by one took every toy she has and delivered them by hand to her daddy. each piece of her tea set, each ball from her popper, each shape from her sorter, and each circle from her stacker, one at a time until there was nothing left. every time, he said “oh, thank you!” and she said “oh yeah gibby jibby hey” as she went back for a new piece. i. almost. died.

Scot was covered in toys, looking like a room straight out of Hoarders, and i sat with tears in my eyes because she was sharing, and she was so dang proud and so deliberate and it was omg too much. she even gave him her binkie. her binkie, you guys. my only regret was not having the camera charged so i could a) video the cuteness and b) have a photo to show you guys of the hubs mountain-o-toys.

she went to bed a half hour late and we had to put all her toys away again. it’s not even funny how little i care.

side note : so “oh yeah gibby jibby hey” either means “you’re welcome” or “here take this peice of crap, i am so totally over it. and since you’re so stoked on it, lemme go get you another one”. we’re going with the first one to keep the story cute and endearing.

Um, ok so first of all HOW CUTE IS THAT?!??!?!? Second of all, what the heck does she think she’s going getting all verbal and cognitive. She’s only 3 days old and I still have the email with her very first pictures starred in my stupid gmail so I can find it whenever I want.

And third, Piper puts the little teacakes into the teapot, one at a time, shutting the lid after she removes them before she picks up the next one to put IT into the teapot. She hands them to me one at a time so that she can always find them when she’s ready for the next one.

Sigh. H is soooo cute and special. I can’t wait to meet her someday and chew her face off. In a loving and gentle way.

So incredibly precious! Harper is just too cute for words :) I have to tell you, though, I’ve got a little sharer myself, and I hate to sound ingrateful but sometimes it’s a drag… I find that there’s rarely room for mama’s stuff and the entire contents of her play kitchen on my desk. I have to dig myself out of piles of fruits and veggies to stand up, and I swear I am constantly searching for my pens that are always at the bottom of said piles. Of course I am always outwardly grateful, but sometimes just wish that my desk was bigger.

    Aww that’s so sweet!!!

You’re right, the best part about parenting is when they learn something, and being able to watch them grow.
