high on thrifting.

a trip to goodwill is like a drug for me. searching through the shelves for treasures is thrilling, and there are moments when i actually ALMOST understand those people on Hoarders. almost. but don’t go calling a&e or go looking for flatcats at MY house. the best part about thrifting is that it’s, well, thrifty. and if you have the time and patience, you can find some amazing things. just be sure to bring hand sanitizer and try to mouth breathe if at all possible.

today i took a trip to our nearest gw on a whim and i found some rad shtuff. this KICK ACE frame was a whopping 99 cents. at first i picked it up and then put it back because it didn’t have glass. STUPID. who needs glass? i came home and during naptime, put different patterned papers in it that i already had. 99 cents later, new art for the guest bath.

my newest obsession is milk glass. we really need to get a house so i can have room to get me a nice big hutch so i can really go bat poop crazy on this stuff. today i found this really pretty bowl and 2 cute vases. yes, i did at one time pay money for fake plastic lemons. thanks for asking.

(placemat from target. the lemons, too.)

since the nugget was still sleeping and i was on a crafty/organizing binge (see, not a hoarder!), i decided to finally finish my wine cork board that had literally sitting on our dining room table for months (crap. i’m NOT a hoarder!). you too can make a wine cork board. first step, drink wine. like, a lot. NOT all at one time because the one i made is roughly one square foot and it took over 100 corks and you could really hurt yourself or embarrass yourself or even possibly buy something you don’t need like this puppet from the bloggess. either save your corks for a really long time, like i did, or buy some on ebay (i’m serious). anywho, i found this frame thingy at goodwill a few months back. i could tell by looking at it that it used to be a wooden calendar of some sorts. i painted it brown, and got a piece of chalk board for the top. if i were to do it again, i’d paint it with a white crackly antique-y. i may still do that.

any quotes that you have that is better than EAT are welcomed. ’cause LAME.

you can really do this with lot’s of old frames. all i did was use hot glue to attach the corks in a herringbone pattern. be sure to only use actual cork ones. the plastic-y ones aren’t so easy to stick pushpins into, and in my opinion it doesn’t look as good (although i suppose my opinion doesn’t really matter when it comes to your kitchen). if you have any other questions, leave them in the comments and i can answer them.

well friends, i hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Hubs has been making so much fun of me for saving corks all these YEARS, but I said that one day I would do something with them…you've inspired me!

what cracked me up was finding all the realllly cheap corks at the bottom – you could see our wine taste change over the years by the corks! not that we buy expensive wine now, but we used to buy CHEAP wine. :]

if you make one i want to see it!

Even better about GW…if you donate stuff, they give you a 20% off your entire purchase coupon…take that on one of their 50% off days, and it can make a person go crazy!

Argh! I went to Goodwill for the first time in forever last week and found a bowling ball bag that I considered buying and using as a purse cuz OMG how cute, but I decided against it and am now full of regret. This post made me regret it even more!

I used to have a quote on the wall in my previous kitchen that would be PERFECT for your new board.

"I like to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food."
    ;)

I love thrifting too when I find great stuff like you did!

The mouth breathing is SO true! I can't manage more than 3-5 minutes in the Good Will without gagging but I have managed to snag a few great things off the shelf before I started running for fresh air.

I would completely change "EAT" to "DRINK" seeing as how it's a wine corkboard!

After reading this post, I feel that it is very important that you know this: I currently have my huge collection of wine corks (from wine I drank) in a thrifted milk glass serving piece that I found at Goodwill. That's all. Oh, and I should make a cork board. Happy Weekend :)

I wish I was this crafty. I buy things with the best of intentions, and they sit in a pile in the office. I'm VERY good at collection supplies, not so good at the follow through. I cannot tell you how many frames (which photos already mounted inside) are sitting in boxes or leaned against walls waiting to be hung. Yeah, we've been in this house for 2 and a half years!

Well, aren't you just crafty? You would DIE to see my mother's milk glass collection. I mean. D.I.E. There are probably a hundred pieces. I never knew they were cool until I started blogging.

Dude, milk glass is the BEST because when you tell people you collect it they practically THROW all their old vases and plates and candy dishes at you because they don't want them but it belonged to their grandmother/aunt/second cousin and can't toss it. I have a ledge around my whole dining room full of the stuff and another 2 dozen vases all over the house. They looks really boring and dated by themselves but when you group it all together in a collection it looks like a page from Better Homes & Gardens.

OMG I just wrote a novel about milk glass.

ANYWAYS. I got three frames from a yard sale a couple weeks ago and have been too lazy to craft anything up yet but your post has inspired me! Imma do it right now!

My husband buys all his clothes at goodwill and he is a trendy, sexy man. I just wear my clothes from 6th grade because I have not grown since then. Sad for me.

I love the win cork thingy! We are getting married at a winery in the spring, so I have been drinking wine like crazy in order to have enough wine corks to decorate with. I know, the sacrifices I have to make, sigh.

LOVE milk glass! great finds mama! i should take you to the crappy little thrift store down the street from my place sometime. a lot of times there's nothing there but sometimes i find great treasures and it's like 1/2 the price of goodwill! (; love the frame with the cute paper – i have q bit of leftover scrapbook paper from poppy's party & never thought of framing it as-is. love it!

    x!

In regard to your board and having something to say other than eat:

'Over the teeth, past the gums, look out stomach here it comes!'

kidding of course, what a wonderful post

I was RAISED thrift store shopping. It's one of my favorite hobbies. The absolute greatest, besides home decor stuff, is baby stuff! We're expecting #2 in the fall & I've found SO many wonderful items [gently used, most from consignment or used boutiques]. Craigslist & Kijiji are also addictive. There's nothing better than a great deal, esp. when it's something vintage & fantastic.

The frame is to die for & I used to collect milk glass until DS broke several pieces & I kind of threw in the towel, hehe.

You've got some crazy talent, with your crafty, Goodwill, steal-of-a-deal frame! This is my first time visiting, and I've got to say, where have I BEEN?? You've been around for a while, and I've missed out on your pure awesomeness! Well, you've got a reader in me. And would you mind coming to my town to go thrifting with me? I'll let you hoard stuff at our storage unit….
