i’d like to start this by saying i am breaking a cardinal blogging rule today – blogging about something we just started doing going well which inevitably usually ends in a big fat mess because said blogging jinxes it.
but i digress.
today we started the (in my mind) long, horrible, torturous adventure of kicking the binkie to the curb. to my pleasant surprise though, Harper has other ideas and seems to be absolutely fine with it. or she is just a really good prankster. stay tuned for which in the coming weeks.
H wasn’t always a fan of the bink. when she was a baby she’d take it or leave it, and as she reached her first birthday and beyond, she liked it for night time but spit it out soon after falling asleep, and didn’t care one bit about it during the day. as her 2nd year progressed, she wanted it more. she’d no longer want to leave it in the crib and i just went with it. i’m a big believer in letting babies have their comfort items. the only other thing H likes as much as her binkie now is her blankie (both of which sound the EXACT same when she says them), a pink lovie with a bear head. she can carry that until she’s 32 for all i care. rock that blankie, girl.
in the past few months she has become pretty adamant about having the binkie at all times, which doesn’t really go along with my plan of getting rid of binkies at her 2nd birthday. i have nothing against people who let their kiddos have binkies past the age of 2 (in part because hello, there is a good chance at this point that i will be one!), but for us, the tantrums over the binkie are just something that i am ready to say goodbye to. i’m tired of the breakdowns if she wants one and we didn’t bring one with us, the fits thrown if she doesn’t get one immediately after her last bite of a meal is taken. the ear piercing car rides if she drops it out of her seat and can’t reach it. i’m sick of being a slave to the bink.
i didn’t have today as the the day we’d get rid of them. but this morning when i got her up, she left it in the crib. we had breakfast and played in the living room, did our normal day to day stuff. no binkie. whent we went to her room to change her diaper, she pointed to her crib and said “bye binkie”. and as i laid her down for her afternoon nap and handed her the binkie, she spit it out.
well then.
after nap, left it in the crib again. fantastic. at bedtime, Scot put her down, came downstairs and told me she refused the binkie when he gave it to her. SCORE.
this may work. it may not (let’s be real, it probably will not – have we met me?). but for the love of anderson cooper, let me have this parenting victory for today.
(even if this does appear to be completely her idea.)

guys? i am SO excited about this one. like, beyond.
i’m super stoked to announce that i am now a contributor for Babiekins Magazine, an incredibly cute and amazing online mag that features fashion, decor, design, parties and DIY projects for babies and kids.
when i was approached by the editors and creator of Babiekins, i admit i totally did a little dance. this is an amazing opportunity for me and i just can’t say enough how incredibly over the moon i am about being a part of this.
Babiekins comes out with an issue 4 times a year, and Harper and i will both be making our debut in the next issue that comes out November 1st. the awesome thing about this mag is that as you digitally flip through the pages, all you have to do is click on the photos or text to be taken to the blog, shop or website of the thing you’re looking at. love the kid shoes on page 3? click through to buy. adore the contributor on fashion? click through to see their whole site.
i will have my own piece in each issue and Harper will be featured in this next one, too! an illustrator took a photo i had of the H monster, and a story was written just for her to go along with it. it’s titled Harper and The Little Gnome. i am dying to see it!
right now, Babiekins is doing a model search for their cover model for the Summer 2011 issue! head on over and enter your kiddo if you think they’d make a great little model! and you can “like” Babiekins on facebook here – they are always having cute giveaways.
so head on over to check out the current issue (Emma’s Closet and Making Room for Ozzy are my favorite things in this issue!) and be sure to keep your eye out for Harper and i in the November 1st issue.
and as per uge, thank you to EVERYONE for your constant support and lovey vibes. y’all are the cats jammies.

i feel pretty refreshed after that week of vacation with the hubs and this past week where i rarely left the house, just lounging around with the monster and trying not to poke my eyes out from the constant screaming, whining and general hating of me and all things (hey, i’m just saying. she’s kind of a beast these days). (i realize it sounds weird that i would be refreshed after that, but really, the time at home has been nice, even with a toddler who can’t stand the mere sight of my face it seems).
i’ve been thinking of new things and ideas for the blog and hope everyone will stick around while i try them out. this blog is really important to me, and you, my readers? mean more to me than i could ever really express. not to get all cheesy and awkward, but really, i love you guys!
::strums guitar while you french braid my hair::
firstly, i hope you guys have been enjoying meeting our sponsors. i have been having fun introducing you to them! i really think the shops i have been working with are the best and have the greatest people running them. can’t say enough good things about how lovely everyone has been since i decided to start taking sponsors. and we still have more coming up. stay tuned!
you may have noticed i have some ads on the blog now, besides the ones from the sponsors of HH. i have refrained from trying them until now because frankly, i didn’t want to gum up the blog with ads or make people feel like i was here to make money. i felt for a long time that people would judge me, or stop reading. i started this blog for fun and moola was never on my radar, but i’ve gotten to the point now where some extra funds to help out my family and very hard working husband is the right fit for me. i hope everyone understands that nothing about my blog is changing, except a few extra ads here and there. which i am not allowed to ask you to click.
so i won’t. ::waves hi to google police::
ooh! so you may have noticed my last post called Steppin’ Out Saturday. one of my crazy shower ideas (please tell me i’m not the only one who gets ideas in the shower). for the last few weekends, Scot has snapped a photo of H and i on our way out of the house. as most of you know, my amazing mama watches Harper on saturdays so Scot and i can have a date night. anyways, saturdays are really the only days i wear cute clothes, do my hair and makeup, and carry a not-diaper bag. i thought i’d start posting the photos of H and i. i’m no fashion blogger (but oh i love swooning at them), but i do believe all mamas deserve to dress up and feel pretty (and it doesn’t have to cost much to put cute outifts together – trust me on this one). and since i often get people asking me about certain pieces of both mine and Harper’s, i thought i’d add those things in the post. getting gussied up, even if it’s once a week, is something i think all moms should do.
so there we have it, a few updates on the haps of the Haps. thanks for always bearing with me as i try new stuff and as with everything (and my super finicky nature), we will just see how it all goes! and let me know if there is something you’d like to see more of, or things you wouldn’t like to see anymore (except my whining about the toddler thing, narwhals, sarcasm, my use of pretty much strictly lowercase letters, and about a million other things i won’t actually stop doing).
big smooches, readers friends!
