Operation Bounce Binkie: We did it.

Posted on | January 24, 2011 | 54 Comments

well, she did it. we were just there to you know, take it away. and tell her the stories of why it was going away. and hope that she didn’t hate us forever.

today marks 2 weeks since we kicked the binkies out for good. they went lots of places. they went bye-bye. they went to the babies that needed them because we are a big girl now. they broke. you know, all those things that an irrational toddler could care less about.

but we did it! and no one died. (i take that back, one binkie totally bit the dust when i cut the tip of in hopes she would no longer enjoy sucking on it. she barely batted an eyelash).

before we began i told myself i really hoped that at the end i’d be saying “that wasn’t nearly as bad as i thought it would be”. the best part? i’m totally saying that. i’m not saying it was easy, because it wasn’t, but it wasn’t nearly as painful as i expected. for a few weeks we started setting her up for what was gonna happen. she kept saying “okay! bye bye binkie! big girl now!”, but i knew come game time, she’d freak her freak. and she did.

night one was awful. she cried for her binkie for an hour. ONE HOUR. we kept going in to reassure her that everything was ok, but that just made it worse. HOW DARE YOU COME IN MY ROOM AND NOT DEPOSIT MY BINKIE INTO MY FACE! so we resolved to not go in the next night, and the next night she only cried for her binkie for 25 minutes. the next night? ten. now, we don’t cry for the binkie. because binkie went bye bye.

(oh and don’t judge me. not for this! reserve your judgements for other more important things like the fact that i sometimes bite my nails as an almost 30 year old, that i own NSYNC cd’s, and never have and never will read or watch harry potter or twilight.)

i didn’t write about it before because you know how it works: you put something into the blogesphere and next thing you know, FAIL. jinxed. kaput. but we’re safe now. 2 weeks and binkie is not in our vocabulary anymore. yippee! the only downside? all of a sudden, without the bink, my little lady no longer looks like a baby. all of a sudden she looks all old and sophisticated! and she’s insisting on wearing scarves and cardigans!

at least we still have the blankie. helps her from looking like she’s headed of to college.

(p.s. very proud of her “binger paintings”).

happy sunday friends! last night scot and i had a nice date that consisted of pho and cab for him, noodle salad and chardonnay for me. today we are all being lazy around the house watching football and drinking coffee (minus the gnomey one, she has vanilla milk). last nights outfit made me happy. i thrifted these shoes for less than! five! dollars! mustard yellow owns my heart and they are in flawless condition. is a necklace with a scarf a no-no? because if it’s wrong i don’t want to be right. and all that jazz.

happy friday! man, fridays are the best, yes?

(duh.)

today i thought i’d share some of my favorite blogs with you. between running a shop, blogging, keeping a house and raising the most adorably funny toddler on the planet, i don’t have a ton of time to read blogs, but my reader is always full. i have more subscriptions than i could ever put here, but i do get a lot of people asking what i like to read. so here are a few!

cool mamas!

sometimes sweet - dani is adorable. she’s a new mom to baby henry and i love that her blog has a little of everything. recipes, tattoo features, posts about henry, and everything in between. she has a contagious positive outlook on life and she’s just lovely.

the doe or the deer - i heart jessica. i can relate to her on many levels and her posts are always real. she blogs about her 2 adorable kiddos, fashion (her outfit posts are always good and really inspire me), her weightloss journey and is overall just fun to read. Note: this girl can pull off some red lipstick.

eye candy

moorea seal - her blog is gorgeous, she is gorgeous and her shop is full of gorgeous things. i love looking at her blog.

dainty squid – pretty colors, photos and links full of inspiration and also: KITTIES!

smile and wave – love! file rachel under cool mamas, too. vintage goodness, crafty goodness and posts about her littles. i feel like her and i would be friends in real life. yep, i’m a creep.

so funny it hurts

the bloggess – this comes as no surprise. y’all know how much i love her, but seriously it never gets old. ever. yes, meeting her last summer was a highlight of my nerdy life. i love her brain. also, read this and try not to LOL.

hyperbole and a half - i just…i have no words. it’s so good, so genius, so incredibly YES. allie brosh blows my flipping mind. every time. this? DEAD.

dudes, man.

smonkyou – obviously.

pacing the panic room – incredibly talented, adorable family. i had the pleasure of meeting ryan briefly at blogher when some of my friends and i were accosting the unicorn cake. he’s kind of brilliant. check out his photography and videos. amazing.

this is just skimming the surface, people. check these out! and if you want me to keep sharing, i’d be happy to. what is your favorite blog? if there is something i should be reading, i wanna know! have a wonderful weekend and i will see you back here on sunday for SOS (right?).

xoxo!
