Mama Style {Oh Dear Drea}

Posted on | March 24, 2011 | 12 Comments

hello and happy friday! today’s mama style is featuring a lady who has awesome style and a really cool blog, Drea from ohdeardrea. i absolutely love reading about her adventures with her little lady Marlowe and her kick ace boyfriend Eric. you should head right over to her corner of the internet and check out her posts – if cooking, crafting, hanging with fun friends and looking at photos of an adorable little babeh are on your list of things you like to read about, which YES.

how has your style changed since you became a mom?
My style hasn’t changed at all. I’ve ALWAYS been in either in a v-neck with jeans (or jean cut-off) or in a dress with shorts underneath. The only difference is now I have to make sure I’m wearing a dress that’s tits-out friendly.

if you’re having a particularly crazy day, what is the beauty/style step you absolutely will not skip?
On the crazy days I try to make sure I have nice light coat of powdered foundation on to cover up any blemishes. And when running out the door I always make sure I have a hat to cover up messy hair and a nice pair of shades to cover up sleepy eyes.

have you ever been mistaken for the nanny?

While I’ve never been full on confronted, I’m pretty sure most people look at me thinking I’m a teen mom or a young babysitter. I look about 12 to 16 years old on most days.

piece of advice for new moms who don’t want to give up their style:
Find a ridiculously comfortable pair of (cute) shoes. For me it was my Seychelles — I bought them in the beginning of my pregnancy (&wore them every single day) and they are still going strong one year later. Best pregnancy buy EVER. I also recommend every mom finds a cute hat. Messy hair? No problem. Greasy hair? who cares. Fly-aways? Pffft. Who cares about anything when you’ve got an awesome hat. Also: SHORTS UNDER DRESSES. No one will see your underwear when you’re crawling on the floor picking up your child. win/win.

thanks so much Drea! i hope everyone enjoys their weekend and we will see you back here for SOS on sunday morning. xo!

Steppin’ Out Saturday {3.19.11}

we had our family photo shoot with Stacy and we had a big bunch of yellow balloons. of course Harper had to bring one with her over to GG’s. they really are the perfect prop – colorful and cute and the most important – keep the littles entertained! date night was way fun – my husband took me thrifting at a store i don’t usually go to but that has the BEST stuff. i scored an adorable vintage suitcase that is Harper’s size and a vintage dress that is to. die. for. after that we went out for dinner and stuffed ourselves with yummy food and beer. what did you guys do? hopefully it has been a kick ace weekend for everyone!

Mama Style {Jen Loves Kev}

Posted on | March 17, 2011 | 12 Comments

happy friday everyone! the time change is still kicking my arse. so i’m glad the weekend is upon us! we have a photo session with the lovely stacy jacobsen tomorrow and i can’t wait! yay family photos!

so back to business! today’s mama style is featuring a blogger i think is super sweet and obviously has great style, Jen from Jen Loves Kev. she is wife to Kev (duh, that would be awkward if she wasn’t) and mama to Rowan, who’s cheeks i would nom. right. off. if given the chance (hide yo kids). puh-recious. since finding Jen’s blog via top baby blogs last year, she has really inspired me in the style department – her outfits always look really put together and fun. i love reading about all aspects of her life – fashion, marriage, motherhood, food and her adventures – over at her blog and i’m stoked she is here today on mine! check her out and say hello.

how has your style changed since you became a mom?
I think it has made me more confident in my choices and helped me narrow down my style.

if you’re having a particularly crazy day, what is the beauty/style step you absolutely will not skip?
I throw my hair up in a chic and easy top knot, put on some mascara and a little lipstain and I instantly feel more put together.

have you ever been mistaken for the nanny?
Not the nanny, but I have definitely gotten the stare down of disapproval because they think I am like 16. I feel like waving my wedding rings in their face and yelling, “I am 28 years old thank you! “.

piece of advice for new moms who don’t want to give up their style?
Don’t! Don’t let being a mom make you feel like you have to give you style. That is such a lie people tell you. You will find what outfits work best for you and you may change you style to suit your new role but that doesn’t mean you have to be any less stylish about it.

thanks so much Jen! have a wonderful weekend everyone and see you back here sunday for SOS. xo!
