What’s in my diaper bag.

Posted on | April 26, 2011 | 42 Comments

maybe i’m a weirdo (spoiler alert: i am), but i love seeing all the “what’s in my bag” posts around the blogosphere. i thought i’d share my essentials because well, it was naptime and the lighting was good. you’re welcome.

someday soon a magical fairy will come and potty train my child and it will be glorious. until then, i carry a diaper bag. luckily these days, i can pack pretty light (as opposed to the infant days where everything but the furniture nailed down to the house came with me)(seriously had i done this post 2 years ago, a photo of an exploded babies r’ us store would have been sufficient). Harper is content without many things these days which is nice on my shoulder and brain since i can’t remember my own head most days.

this is my diaper bag. isn’t she a beaut? my pal emily gave me it as a gift! after a few months of using it, i promptly bought her one for the arrival of her poppy because it’s that rad and everyone should have one. everyone. even you there, without the kid. it’s a petunia picklebottom touring tote and it truly rocks the casbah. wipable surface, lots o’ pockets inside and comes with a changing pad and wipe case. it even has stroller hooks so you can take the strap off, hook it to the stroller and be hands free. highly recommend it to you ladies that are expecting – the price tag is worth it in my humble opinion. moving onward.

after i dumped out all the receipts, old goldfish crackers, bunched up dry wipes, and pens (where do they come from? how did i get so many?), and stray pennies and nickles, here’s what was left:

1. cutest lil’ handmade pouch i won over at Pretty Swell. her sister Laura made it and i completely adore it for chapstick, hairbands and bobby pins, hand sanitizer and whatnot.
2. my new mytouch 4g phone, aka the best thing ever invented. swoon and repeat.
3. for when i’m feeling fancy, red lipstick. my drug of choice is rimmel red alert. MEOW.
4. a travel sippy. with Dora. because obviously.
5. plenty of Opal cards, just in case.
6. Boon snack pod. we’ve had this and loved it since H was chompin’ puffs.
7. notebook for jotting down all my crazy ideas that come to me at crazy times.
8. gloss for when red lipstick isn’t so much appropriate (can’t really think of a time, but yeah).
9. dipes and wipes. come on potty training fairy! man, that’s going to be rad when she shows up.
10. sunglasses (h & m) and case (target dollar section).
11. cutest wallet alive from target when they had liberty of london stuffs.

best part about this post? my bag is totes clean now (haha! a purse pun. get it? totes? oh god i slay me). have you done a what’s in your bag post? if so, i’d like to see. because i’m a creeper, too.

so i’m obsessed with my new phone. namely, angry birds and the vignette photo app. we took tons of photos this weekend on our nice camera, but i thought id’ share the weekend recap in photos from my phone. looking at these make me really happy and remind me of what a fun couple of days we had roadtripping, walking the arboretum, sitting in the sun, hunting for eggs, playing fetch with the pups and spending time with my in laws.
drivin’, snoqualmie pass, tootsies, coffee stop, sunshine, digging in the garden, chasing geese with grandpa, puglife, creamslush.

spring!, spring with Bobbi!, frenchie, pups, sun down, easter dress, easter baskets, apple fritter breakfast date, huntin’.

eating jellybeans, relaxing, winning, bug & pug, squishy facers, easter dinner!, pooped, almost home, in a box.

i wish the sunshine and whole weekend would have kept going. besides the food and sweets part though – we fell so far off the wagon with our eating plan it was hard to even find the wagon this morning. wait – or did we get on the wagon? the wagon talk has always confused me. what i mean is – we ate lots of delicious food that pissed off our stomachs. whichever direction on the wagon that is? that. so this morning, i am either back on or off the wagon depending on which is correct. /dumbest paragraph ever written on my blog.

so i have actually finished angry birds and am now going back through trying to get the 3 stars on all levels. if you don’t know what i’m talking about, just ignore me. if you do know what i’m talking about, then here, join me at the crack pipe. this stupid game is so addictive. Scot made fun of me until i handed it to him to play. now we try and kill those stupid smug pigs together. /nerdiest paragraph ever written on my blog.

do you have a favorite android app? not that i need any more. ok, i totally need more. talk droidy to me.

today is a two-fer! we spent our holiday weekend in eastern washington soaking up some real sunshine with Scot’s parents. we had such an amazing time – food, fun, easter egg hunts, relaxing and exploring. i’ll share lots of photos with you guys tomorrow. i thought i’d share both days outfits with you guys since H’s easter dress was just too cute to keep to myself (thanks Mom!). i hope you guys had an awesome easter and are basking in a peep coma/cadbury egg coma/jellybean coma. ham coma? perhaps. roll me outta here.

(the scale and i are not going to be friends tomorrow).

hopefully you guys will all still link up even though i’m totes tardy to the party (woah-oh-oh woah-oh-oh). and thanks for keeping me in the top 10 over the weekend on the stylish mama list. i’ve found a few new favorite reads over there that i’d never heard of before so you guys should check out the others whilst you vote for me (i mean what? oh. gosh thanks!). but seriously, check out the other super stylish blogging mamas. happy weekend!

Mama Style {The Paper Mama}

Posted on | April 21, 2011 | 14 Comments

hello and happy friday friends. i need to know – is it just me, or is this april the fastest month in the history of months? i cannot believe it’s friday again AND almost may. crazytown. so! today’s mama is the lovely Chelsey from The Paper Mama. she’s a stay at home mama to Ruari, wife to Mike and creative force behind The Paper Mama Shop and The Paper Lady. do you like my blog header? she made it. she drew it. she made me into a deer and Harper into a narwhal. so basically she is awesome. amiright? i’m always all swoony over her anthropologie pieces and her great shoe collection. she also is a very honest and sweet person whom i love reading about and her photos are really lovely. please go say hi if you haven’t before!

//hairclip//

how has your style changed since you became a mom?
First off… showers are almost non-existent. Ok… not that bad… But, it’s down to like 4-5 times a week. Before I was a mama I bathed everyday. Makeup everyday. “Real” clothes everyday. I’ll be honest with you all… I pretty much wear jammies or leggings ALL week long. Yup. I love it. SO much easier to chase a baby, err, I mean toddler (when did that happen?) around.

I never wear heels anymore. I just can’t. I’d break my ankle trying to do that with Ruari. The sad part is that I LOVE shoes. A lot. Like, A LOT. I have many shoes… not sure how many… but, lets just say I have a nice collection. I mostly wear heels for my Steppin’ Out photos. ;D. Or, on the VERY rare occasion I do actually step out to a bar or something: heels will be on.

Another change: my dress collection is collecting dust. When I first had Ruari and was pumping milk I couldn’t zip or slip any dress on over the girls…. so, my pretty dresses just had to hang out in my closet. Eventually they started to fit again… But, I don’t wear dresses too much now because I get down on the floor with the babe so much that I don’t want to flash everyone. Well… maybe I do. But, I guess that’s what leggings are for, right? Throwing on some leggings under my dresses has helped. That way I don’t have to cross my legs and sit all lady-like while playing.

if you’re having a particularly crazy day, what is the beauty/style step you absolutely will not skip?
Well, before I had a baby it was always mascara. Now: if I’m having a crazy day I just make sure I have clothes on. That’s the only requirement. But, I do want to change that, and I am. I want to feel good about how I look. So, I’ve been working back to my mascara routine. It’s been a bit hard getting back into the “caring about what I look like mode” but, I’m on my way. Steppin’ Out Saturday has been awesome for that.

have you ever been mistaken for the nanny?
Ha! No. But, right after I had the baby (when my wedding ring didn’t fit) I think I was mistaken for a teen mom. Hee. My mom was always with me when I was out and I swear I got some, “Poor child.” looks. Ha! Funny.

piece of advice for new moms who don’t want to give up their style?
Don’t. Just don’t. Of course it’s not that simple, but tell yourself you wont give up your style. I went through some terrible postpartum depression and just completely stopped caring for myself. I wish I hadn’t let myself go down that drain, but I did. Now I’m building myself back up and am loving it. Yes, your favorite clothes may not fit… but, don’t let it keep you from lookin’ good. I had never had a belly or been overweight before the baby. It’s been very hard to work off extra weight and accept my new body. But for now: Some make up. Some stretch pants. A pretty shirt. And, a shower. For now. I hope you can start that new mom life off with a kick and some lipstick! What? Yes, that did rhyme.

thank you so much Chelsey! you rule.

you guys have blown me away by getting me up to the top 10 (as i write this at least!) at the 25 Top Moms with Style. i have the best readers on the internet and i know that for a fact. thank you all SO MUCH for your support in everything, even the silly things (or things that perhaps seem silly). i hope things like SOS and Mama Style have helped you in some way, and being recognized in any regard for those things really means the world to me. feeling good about yourself and feeling pretty is something everyone deserves. you guys have really helped me to feel comfortable in my own skin. before i babble on and cry or something, just know that i appreciate everything you guys do for me. for reading, for voting for stuff that doesn’t really matter, but mostly just for being here. ::runs away crying::
