Harper,
tonight, we kissed you goodnight on the last day you’ll ever be two years old. someday you will understand the bittersweet process of saying goodbye to a year of your child’s life, but for now you sleep and dream, just as it should be. this time of your life is like the magic hour – you’re old enough to have full conversations with us, giggle, laugh and cuddle and you’re still too young to be too “cool” for mom and dad or realize how lame we are. we know our days are numbered in that regard, so we hold these days close.
this past year has gone too fast, but i suppose this will be a recurring theme in your childhood. it seems to pass in a blink of an eye and it hurts while simultaneously making my heart burst with pride and love for the person you are becoming. you are so silly, so unique and surprise us every day. you are brilliant and beautiful inside and out. most days, i’m left in complete awe that i am lucky enough to be your mom.
i know i say this all the time (but i’ll never stop), but you are a complete and utter joy to know. your excitement about life in general is contagious and felt by every last person you come in contact with. i know you are going to grow to be an amazingly independent and incredible person, and your daddy and i could not be more proud of you, and to be your parents. thank you for all the happiness you bring to our lives – you are truly one of a kind and our favorite, most prized thing in life.
happy third birthday bub.

today was awesome! Harper’s best little buddy Nora had a monster ball birthday party. all the girls were to wear dresses/princessy stuff and once there they made monster masks and got a bag of goodies including monster gloves (that Holly and Bree painstakingly made by hand!). Holly read a cute book to the girls called The Monster Princess and Doug made monster oreo balls. basically the cutest theme party ever. happy birthday Nora Belle! we all love you so much little lady.

tomorrow my mom is throwing a party for Harper and Monday is her actual birthday. we have some full-of-the-awesome couple of days ahead of us. i hope you are in the midst of a rad halloween weekend as well!

with all the potty training madness (sidenote: she did it! it got all clicky in her brain and we are good to go. it took 8 days but the kid is a freakin’ champ now), i’ve had little time to reflect on the fact that our biscuit will be turning three on monday. by little time to reflect, i mean i’ve been in serious denial. my baby? cannot possibly be turning three.
but she is. and on halloween! or Harperween as we deemed it (almost) three years ago.
i didn’t want a halloween baby. i have no idea why, but i didn’t. either did Scot. i think we wanted her to have her day and i had visions of her friends not showing up to her birthday parties because they had halloween plans and whatnot. but that was silly. because halloween is obviously the coolest holiday birthday to have! and this year, she knows that her birthday is on halloween. and she is so so so excited.
(cute related note: a co-worker of my moms asked Harper what she was going to be for Halloween and Harper answered “three”. TOUCHE SMALL PERSON. TOUCHE).
this year my mom wanted to make a costume for Harper. and of course i happily jumped on board because my mom? is kind of a really amazing halloween-costume-tress. no seriously. for your consideration:
right?!
and exhibit b:

that just happened. well, i mean, it happened in 1986 but you know. logistics.
so we headed off to the fabric store and went through some books. Harper picked her costume with no knowledge of disney princesses (although i don’t consider this one a princess) OR knowledge of how perfectly perfect she will be in it. and so GG set to work on yet another masterpiece. thanks mom. you are the best.
perfectly perfect, amirite?
