This week.

i’m in better spirits this friday than last. the funk is a funky place to be, is it not? glad it’s over. until next time, you big jerk!

things that we did this week:

>> i read books. i know what you’re thinking – wow Mandy, tell me more! about this “reading” you speak of! truth be told, until last week i hadn’t read a single book, save for books about how to keep your child alive, since Harper was born. in 2008. for shame. but! i’m back in the land of the reading and it is glorious. i started and finished A Million Little Pieces, which was amazing. then i found out the author was kind of lying? and that all this stuff happened with Oprah and seriously, was i living under a rock for the last 6 years? whatever, great book, couldn’t put it down.

>>Harpers face was in Real Simple magazine! our friends Modern Bird Studios were in there for their amazing art and one of the pieces they made for us is in there. i grabbed the march issue at target the other day and showed H. she yelled “but that’s me, mommy!” and then people looked at us. i’m positive i could not have looked crazier. but whatever because Real Simple magazine! so proud of our friends.

>> i made this for dinner and it was delicious. we also made some kick ace ramen with pork and veggies and tons of sriracha. cheap and easy, just like i likes ‘em.

>> i’ve been poking around Clickin’ Moms. i’ve been lucky enough to be chosen as one of their blog ambassadors, and i’m so excited! i have no idea how to use my camera and so far, the women have been so nice and helpful. i’ve been perusing the forums and will share some things i’ve learned so far really soon. what i love most is that it is a place where any level is welcome – i have no grand ideas of going pro, i just want to learn how to use my camera and take photos i love of my family. everyone is treated the same and everyone is nice no matter your level or goals. if you wanna check it out, you can use THEHAPSTRIAL for a free trial, or if you want to bite the bullet and get a membership, use THEHAPS for 20% 6 months or a year. hecks yes.

on the web, i loved this post so much, and this blog is making me happy. off the web, i consumed a lot of orgeon chai. can you buy it in bulk at costco? because yeah.

All I’ve been reading lately is the keeping the kid alive stuff too. Thinking I should probably read something else before it becomes all about the baby.

Reading is one of my favorite things to do. Even better than trashy TV! And I’m glad you’re having a better week this week. Some weeks just plain suck.

I said it on Twitter but I’ll say it again. A Million Little Pieces is my most favorite book I’ve ever read. I don’t really care if he lied. No, he shouldn’t have done it. But that doesn’t negate the fact that he is an amazingly talented writer!

Congrats on being chosen for the ambassador moms! I’m on CM too but have yet to post anything. I’ve just been perusing and learning as I go. I shoot on manual most the time now but still have the feeling that I don’t know what I’m doing! Hoping to be more confident soon.

You should read the rest of James Frey’s books – My Friend Leonard and Bright Shiny Morning.  He also had one you can only download or pay $50 bucks for a hardcover, so I haven’t read that one yet.  Even with all the drama, I love his writing.

Can you tell me how you made the ramen?

    Mandy Reply:

we make a broth with chicken stock, bullion, chili paste and hoisin (nothing scientific, just a bit of each!). just buy plain ramen noodles, boil them in the broth. this time we marinates some pork, cooked it up and sliced it. we like to use snow peas, bean sprouts, mushrooms, cilantro for veggies, and top it with sesame oil and seeds and sriracha.

    Reading is fun-damental.

Someone already mentioned it, but read Hunger Games. Now. The hubs works for Scholastic, so we got all sorts of paraphanalia around and I love acting like a 16 year old girl about it. Movie comes out in March…so, ya know. You’ll want to read it before that!

I’ve been dying to read more lately, I just can’t find the time! I’m a teenage girl, so if you can find the time and you have a child, I think I should be able to find time! Haha :)

I read A Million Little Pieces a few years ago and absolutely loved it… but wished I hadn’t googled it afterwards! Oprah dramas aside, I love his writing and you should definitely read his other books!
