High on Thrifting Thursday v.2

Posted on | February 23, 2012 | 43 Comments

first of all, a big thanks to everyone who linked up with the first high on thrifting thursday 2 weeks ago! i loved checking out all the awesome things people have found. i’m stoked to keep this going every 2 weeks until people lose interest. i of course, will keep thrifting, because i have a problem.

last weekend my local goodwills had a 2 day sale on books – they were all 50% off. this coincided really well with my renewed love of books, and i snatched up some hardbacks for $2 each and softcovers for $1 for myself and a couple books for H at .49 cents. admittedly, i went both days of the sale. on friday when H was at preschool i got a giant coffee and slowly made my way through them at the one in our town. the next day i stopped at another one with Chelsey who was visiting and grabbed even more books.

i mentioned the other day that i had read A Million Little Pieces and loved it. a few people said i needed to get My Friend Leonard to read as well. i figured when i had some extra cash i’d buy it on amazon or whatever. but there it was at goodwill, on book sale day, for two dollars. i did a jig right there in the aisle. ask Chelsey, she saw me do it. JIG OF JOY.

the books i’ve read so far that i’ve picked up thrifting have been really good. which is surprising because i’m literally just grabbing random books that sound decent after reading the jacket. This is Where I Leave You was really good, Like Normal People, and of course A Million Little Pieces. all great books. I’m working on Good Grief right now and so far i am enjoying that, too. < —- not affiliate links.

i also found this pretty framed drawing. it’s super old and really frail so i had to reinforce the back but now it’s hanging in the guest bathroom. the colors are so pretty and wouldn’t it make a pretty tattoo? 6 bucks. again, with the jigs.

i can’t wait to see all of your finds. link up your thrifting posts below! and grab a button for your post if you’d like.

Loving these posts, I just love second-hand finds!
One time I stumbled upon a closing down sale of a local thrift store (or op-shop as we call them here) and they were running fill a bag with books for $5. I ended up with 27 paperbacks for like $15. Sometimes when i feel down I think about that day and if gives me the smiles :D

You scored some great finds. The Lovely Bones was one the first books I remember reading and being truly sad when it ended. Also all the Emily Giffin books are so addicting. I am counting down the days til her next book comes out. Enjoy:)

Love that picture! I’ve never thought to look for books at the thrift store! New mission. We just bought a million board games for under $5. Did lots and lots of jigs =] also? LOVE James Frey and LOVED “this is where I leave you!” except all
His stuff is pretty much the same. But he’s an excellent author.

my friend Leonard is SO good. Probably my favorite of all of his books but I enjoyed ALL of them. I know hes like a punk and got called out by Oprah but dude’s got talent you can’t argue with.

    Also–read Glass Castle. For reals.

late last week i hit the jackpot with piles of so-terrible-they’re-awesome young adult vampire, witch, werewolf, underworldy books for pennies.  i have been rotting my brain indulging in them all week which is why i have pretty much neglected my blog… and my dishes.  books are the best!  thanks again for hosting.

I need to change things up a bit, the local goodwills haven’t been had any thrift-worthy finds lately…I keep meaning to try St. Vincents…you mentioned that place right?

Fabulous finds! I love reading, but I never really get books because it’s hard to know if they’ll be good enough. I guess I should start taking the chance, because it’d save me a lot of money (from buying on amazon and paying overdue fees at the library).

I’m definitely going to be participating next time. That gives me two weeks to get my thrift on. It’s been way to long since I went (with four little ones at home it’s a little difficult), but I miss it so much! Actually, does yard sale finds count? I found some great ones this week!

Good book choices! Emily Giffin is always sweet and This is Where I Leave You is really good. The Lovely Bones will make you cry and cry and then read it over again, multiple times. Happy reading!

I actually did a little thrifting last weekend, and I really don’t do that very often. BUT I scored a stack of books and some clothes. Maybe I should blog it and join along…
Also- Love Emily Giffin, her books are fun. And it was a long time ago, but I remember really loving The Lovely Bones.

Emily Giffin is always a good light read, although my favorite books by her were Something Borrowed & Something Blue.

Have you tried Marian Keyes? She is an amazing author…smartass Irish/English books (so you know the lingo is super fun) and the characters are hilarious. Highly recommend.

Great finds! This is such a fun post…excited to link up this week.
