i always have a really hard time starting off posts where i talk about something awesome that i am now completely borderline obsessed with (code orange). i’m always afraid that i’m going to sound like i’m selling something and it’s really hard to portray how much i like something without sounding really gung-ho and using lots of exclamation points!!! i feel especially silly when the thing i’m totally freaking out over is used to suck the dirt out of my carpets. but here we are.

and i am totally freaking out over this vaccum cleaner from Oreck.

the thing is, our vacuum prior to this glorious piece of machinery smelled and sounded like it was going to catch right the hell on fire every time we used it. i liked to imagine it was sucking up all the stuff, but the truth was it wasn’t. and we are dealing with a toddler, 2 dogs (one of whom sheds like a mofo) and a long haired cat. the dirt, it is dirty.

i was skeptical when i pulled the Oreck Magnesium out of the box – it’s really light and almost feels like a toy. but i was shocked to find that it worked – better than any vacuum i’ve ever owned. this is what happens when you buy the cheapest vacuum you can get instead of investing in a nice one. once you try a legit one you wonder how much nasty stuff your cheapie has been leaving behind (spoiler alert: a lot). truly, our carpets have never looked better after vacuuming, to the point where Scot and i both want to vacuum – it’s a sickness and i blame Oreck.

a few of my favorite features on the Mag (we’re on a nickname basis now): it’s so lightweight – we have stairs and carrying it up to do the second level is so easy now. it unfolds completely flat, perfect for under the bed (um, someday when there isn’t stuff under there?) and little tables, the couch, etc. also the cord is really long so i can do the entire floor with out having to switch outlets. glorious.

the only thing i don’t love is it does use a bag. luckily you can buy them online and there is an Oreck store in the next town over from us. honestly the bag doesn’t even bother me that much after using the vacuum for a few weeks, because it works so well the trade off is fine (the one we had before was a canister that we had to empty and it was gross anyhow). another thing that could be a plus or a minus depending on what you prefer is that there are no attachments. but you can buy a package that includes this bad boy, which is awesome (or you could win them down there…just saying).

this little guy also uses a bag (cute little bag is cute) and has a bunch of attachments and a super crazy extended hose. i use this on the stairs, the couch and along the baseboards. it’s got a little shoulder strap so you can just shimmy around the house cleaning the crap out of it. best ever. bonus: long cord as well.

I’d LOVE to win this vac to give to my mother.. I live in a teeny tiny apartment and she’s an oreck lover who deserves it! At the orek website I found out this Magnesium oreck vacum only weighs 7.7 pounds.. thats less than some babies! It also has 102 mph of airflow to suck that dirt right up.

Oh I so need this vacuum! My current vacuum is a piece of crap and it makes me want to hurl it across the room. Except I can’t because it is huge and heavy. I think it’s so fantastic that it has two separate speeds for carpet and hardwood. Our house is 50/50. I NEED THIS NEW VACUUM! We actually have to physically hold the cord to ours in with one hand while vacuuming with the other.

The saniseal system that locks dirt in the bag, is awesome. my hurtin vacuum spits dust everywhere and just the other day while I was trying to empty the nastiness, it spilled all over the floor. Gross.

Wow! I need one of those after going through 3 vacuums because of all the dog hair. And recently our Dyson sounds like it’s going to take off like a rocket into space. Went to Oreck.com and read about the HEPA filter…the most important thing for me when considering a vacuum! I also actually like the bag – I have an old Dyson now and I feel like I put a good percentage of the dust back into the air when I empty the canister!

I love LOVE the fact that it makes it easy to get under couches and coffee tables. Not to mention the weight alone would be great for my bad back, and with it being able to work effeciently on both carpet and hardwood it wouldn’t be such a beating to get my floors clean each day for my seven month old

oh god I need a new vacuum so badly! I think we have the actual first vacuum ever made (inherited from my MIL) and it weighs about 100 lbs and smells. I love that the Oreck can easily switch surfaces since we have tile and carpet and will soon have hardwood too. with 2 dogs that shed faster than I can clean, I NEED this.

OMG! I am moving to a new home in a matter of weeks and I would LOVE to have this vacuum! We desperately need a new one, as our current hand-me-down Oreck is on its last leg (duct taped power cord? Fingers, Toes & Eyes crossed we win this bad mamajamma! Ours broke (sad face) & had to roll up the rugs in our 80+ yo hardwood floor home. The toddler & baby are none to thrilled about it. Even tho I too have gotten used to a bagless system, I was happy to learn that The Saniseal System automatically seals shut, which locks the dirt in the disposable bag. I learned a lot of things about this vacuum but what I love the most is that it’s lightweight at only 7.7 lbs., and that it can lay flat to vacuum under couches and beds. I have 3 boys and there’s sand and dirty EVERYWHERE. :/ Here’s hoping I win!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE vacuuming. I just do. My husband makes fun of me because currently our vacuum (which is dying) has two lights on it: green means the space is clean and red means the vacuum is still picking up dirt! Anyways, I will stand there vacuuming an area on a rug until that little light turns green. It makes me so happy when it does! We have a toddler and a Rottweiler named Ruby. Enough said. I learned that the Oreck has so much power that it feels like it’s self propelled on most surfaces! That sounds pretty awesome to me!

among all its wonderful features I gotta say i’ happy about the 7 year warranty and the Direct Suction that has “dirty air system” in which dirt is
pulled through a fan that breaks it into smaller particles that get
sucked up into the vacuum.:)

The Mag is so lightweight! Let’s be honest, in the 7 months we’ve lived in our house, I’ve never vacuumed the stairs b/c my vac is a monster. Oh wow, would I LOVE this vacuum – ours is a broken-down piece of junk, and we have two girls (5 and 9), 2 cats, and a fresh baby on the way – time to get rid of all the dirt!

I learned that The Mag uses direct suction, which allows for a smaller motor, making the vacuum more lightweight. How awesome is that?!
