Steppin’ Out | Party time, excellent

On me >> Blouse: Target // Jeans: gift from Levi’s // Shoes: Target. On the almost birthday girl >> Top, skirt, leggings and shoes: Target (I know. Whatever.)

Despite my efforts, my child will not stop growing and aging. She’s going to be four in a few days so we threw her a party this weekend. It was awesome! She had a blast, was so good (I still have my fingers crossed every day for four being better than three), and thanked and hugged each guest after I read their card to her. It was a wonderful day, and I managed to keep my own anxiety about having 30 people in our house at bay, so I had fun, too. Air punches all around.

I want to be that mom who perfectly plans a themed party for my kid. I do. I have friends who do it and I see people do it on Pinterest and god do I wish I could be that and do that. But I’m just not that person. It took me 4 years to accept. I think buying some Target plates, some balloons and 5 pom poms and calling it good really helped me to enjoy the day. Harper had a great day, and that is all that mattered. It helps that we have so many amazing people in our lives who want to celebrate her.

We decided to make it a pancake party, which was a huge hit. It was at 11am so everyone could still nap and go about their plans for the day afterwards.

Thank you to the friends and family who made the day so special for her, and thanks to those of you who have cheered us on over the years. I can’t believe this lady is about to be 4!

p.s. I got my hair done – no more ombre + extensions. My hair hit it’s limit and decided to stop growing, so I made it grow. My friend and hair goddess Carly did it all for me and if you’re in the Puget Sound area, you need her in your life. Trust me.

i happen to think that most people who throw super elaborate parties for their kids, do it mostly to impress the adults. kids care about balloons, juice, cake and fun. looks like a great party and i can’t believe Harper will be 4 because i feel like just the other day you were posting about her turning 3. love her skirt, almost grabbed it for Lily. and your hair looks fab!!

    1. awesome top, I have the same one in green floral. So comfy and flattering!

    2. Pancake parties are the best. We had one for my daughters 1st birthday- plain or banana pancakes with a toppings bar :) happy birthday, Harper!

How did this Pancake party work? My daughter is having her 3rd bday party in 3 weeks, at 10:30 and I was just going to order pizza for 11… and then do a build your own sundae bar… but pancakes really sound yummy!!

It was perfect – my husband started making pancakes about a half hour before the party started, and stacked them in the oven which was set to warm. We had a toppings bar with flavored syrups, fruit (frozen berries that had thawed), whip cream, choc chips, nutella, peanut butter, bananas, sprinkles, etc. It was a huge hit, easy, and pretty inexpensive!

Gorgeous party, pics and people! One of these days I’ll stop being such a spaz and just have a cute un-themed party, I swear it. A pancake party is genius!

What a gorgeous birthday girl!! That party looks like heaps of fun – gorgeously-themed parties with heaps of decor are great to look at, but the main thing is that Harper and her friends have a ball, which it totally looks like they did!

Hi! I’m one of your “quiet readers”. I visit often, but haven’t ever left a comment. This morning, though, while looking through these photos, I felt compelled to tell you how beautiful your baby girl is. She is honestly so stunning! Watch out! She’ll be a heart breaker for sure!

Mandy, she is so crazy adorable and I love you girls’ yellow! Glad she had a great party and I hear you on the b-day party prep, it can get totally crazy.

p.s. These pics look like something out of a magazine layout for a birthday party. No. Lie.

Super Cute! I am sure I will be the mom that tries to make the party pinterest perfect, but then, hopefully, I’ll remember that being present with my child is more important than the cute decorations she won’t remember. (Please send this comment to me in a few years!)

    Do you like the extensions?

I LOVE them. They made my hair twice as thick as well as so much longer. Can’t say enough good things about them!

firstly, those photos of Harper by the fireplace, could she be any cuter?! i think not! and secondly, its nice to meet another mum in blogland who does not make the perfect party all by hand and bake and create and do all those wonderful pintrest things. I feel pressured (in a non weird type way) to be like that, but this year i just shop bought everything and instead of stressing about getting things done/being perfect, i just enjoyed my boys specially day. It was amazing, and that my friend is what shops are for!! ;) xx glad you all had a great day!

OH. My. Gosh. Could your little bit be any cuter! ;) She is so precious. My little guy turned four back in June and while we never really had problems with terrible twos or threes. He has pretty much been an angel for the last several months. He started preschool (how do they grow up so fast?!) and is learning so much. It has just been such a fun and interactive age. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am. ;) Happy Birthday to your precious little one.
Also, your new hair is lovely and I love your flowy mustard blouse. ;)

Harper really is just ridiculously pretty. Hard to believe she’s 4 already. The same age as my super handsome son, hmmm. No, but seriously…crazy pretty. And by looking at these pics, even all her friends are pretty. Sheesh! Glad her pancake party was a success.
