i thought the girls coming to Bree’s bachelorette party needed a little something for their head and since i absolutely love mixing wine with a hot glue gun, i went and gave Michaels some of my moneys and crafted up an idea in my head. and i only burnt myself the one time. success!
some of the elements of the upcoming nuptials (fun fact: Scot is a groomsman, i’m a bridesmaid and Harper is a flower girl) are feathers, moss, antlers and other fun things. i decided to make some feathery clips (that could be put in the hair or clipped to a headband) for the girls and put them in some little boxes with moss as the landing zone (Bree got a birds nest, because obviously).
i simply cut feather shapes out of felt (some gray and some mustard yellow), and then arranged and hotglued feathers to the front and a few to the back (along with the clip itself). i had just found some vintage cloth ribbon, so i cut out hearts to cover up the ends of the feathers and bring it all together. Bree’s was much larger and more elaborate than the others (as it should be).

then i decided to draw antlers on each of the boxes. why? because being crazy is fun.
the girls loved them! i brought lots of headbands and we pretty much all wore our as headbands. the first part of our evening was spent gossiping, drinking wine and bourbon and eating yummy food at Bree’s sisters house. that just happens to have the best view, like ever. Tami doesn’t know it yet, but i’m totally moving in.

we got all kinds of crafty with more glueguns and even an iron and we made – what else – superhero capes (who needs penis straws when you have A CAPE?) and as far as i know, no one burned themselves. as the sun went down we headed out to Tacoma for a night on the town, which i don’t have any real photos of because well, i was having too much fun to remember to take any.
only a month until the big day! it’s going to be such a gorgeous event, i can’t wait. wedding season is in full swing – have you been to (or in) any this summer?

i love one shoulder dresses! i was stoked to find this one for under $25 – i plan on taking it to san diego with me for blogher and possibly wearing it out. i think i need a belt next time though – something skinny and cute but to break up the pattern. i also never wear dresses this short but for the occasion (read: no toddler handling) it was fine and surprisingly not awkward. i’m obsessed with leather bracelets and this one is perfect – it wraps around twice and was on clearance. boom.
last night i stepped out solo to the bachelorette party for my best gal Bree. it was a fun evening full of awesome ladies, yummy food and drinks and thank god- no penis paraphernalia to be seen. instead we decorated capes – yes – and wore feathery headbands and were generally pretty rad. later this week i’ll share with you guys the little things i made (i crafted! with a glue gun!) for the girls and share more photos. for now i have some serious cuddle catch ups to do with the little lady and my mister.
hope you guys are having a great weekend! this week i’ll be sharing some outift ideas for those of you going to blogher and are stumped on what to pack – and if you’re not going, then just consider it some good old fashioned style inspiration!

Hello, Harper’s Friends! Annie here, from The Friendly Fox, guest posting for Mandy while she takes a little break. I must say, a break from the computer and all internet-related things can be a truly refreshing thing! Here’s hoping it’s that and more for Mandy!

Last week, as my four month old Jacob slept, I changed our pillow cases from solid colors to some polka dot ones. When Jacob woke up the next morning (in our bed, where he sleeps), he FREAKED OUT over the dots! It was the silliest thing to watch-he was clawing and batting at the pillowcases and tried to climb up them. With the biggest smile on his face, he grabbed one of the pillows hugged it and licked it for about ten minutes. Everytime he saw those dots, he’d smile like a maniac. Since I can’t walk around carrying a pillow in one hand and Jacob in the other arm, I gave him the little drawstring bag the sheets came in. It made him so happy, and I realized that- while very endearing- my kid dragging around a fabric bag is a bit sad. And apparently babies shouldn’t play with bags. So I set out to make him a couple of little toys. Now, I am NOT good at sewing by any means. Though I took a few classes and can handle the basics, sewing a straight line is sometimes a challenge and I was up for it.
I decided on two simple shapes: the letter J and an arrow. Both of these have long skinny sections that he can wrap his little fingers around easily, and they have small sections that can be easily shoved in his mouth.

1. I found the shapes I wanted, blew them up in Photoshop, and printed them out. I pinned them to the fabric and cut 1/4″ bigger than the paper, to allow for the seam.
2. I sewed 1/4″ from the edge of the fabric, using the guides on my machine. Leave an unstitched area for the stuffing.
3. Instead of using stuffing, I filled these with uncooked rice. I figured the rice would feel good on Jacob’s gums when he starts teething soon, and they could be thrown in the freezer to help ease the pain. Also I was lazy and didn’t feel like going to the fabric store for batting. **If you are filling these with rice instead of stuffing, please please make sure your stitches are tight enough that the rice won’t get through them when your little one is gnawing away! You don’t want them choking on uncooked rice!!
4. Stitch the opening up super well. Maybe you are like me and don’t quite know the proper way to do that neatly so you try to play it off like you totally meant to have the stitches cross like that.

5. Give them to your chubby baby to play with! I sewed these while Jacob napped, and he was so excited about them when he woke up. They have become one of his favorite things to chew on and wave around!

I’m definitely inspired to try my hand at a few more toys for Jacob. These types of projects are great if you’re a beginner like me, because they don’t have to be perfect- just made with love. Your baby will never know the difference if you had to sew the arrow three times because they came out wonky the first two.
xoxo,
Annie, from The Friendly Fox

my pal amy does a weekly link up of iphone photo posts. i don’t have an iphone, but i have something equally amazing! so i thought i’d join in. i love taking photos on my new phone because it’s easy. i can capture sweet moments and bits of our day without even having to worry about carrying my camera around. if you have an android phone, i highly recommend vignette. i adore it – i set it on random vintage and each photo comes out different. here are some tidbits of our last week (maybe not the most exciting week to start with considering i had a bad neck and a teething kidlet, but i digress).

sunday – trike rides. monday – new rug and some errands, pretty mt rainier! tuesday – margaritas. wednesday – hanging at home swaddling “baby morrison” (she named it that!). friday – helping mommy pick out sunglasses & a clean house. saturday – new duds, new glasses, off to michaels, crafting and a family date! sunday – mamas day flowers, sillyness with my two faves.
we are in for an interesting week around here. scot has lots of work things going on, we are starting a new (hopefully more effective) timeout situation for a certain toddler, the neck is still healing, kid is still teething. my best gal Bree’s big 30 is this weekend and we have a wildly awesome playdate planned for friday. i have a few DIY projects going on, plus working on the shop and all the regular life things in between! i’m tired just typing all this. happy monday frands! hope you’re off to a fabulous start of your week.
oh and try linking up with Amy sometime if you’re addicted to taking photos on your phone into such things!
