so we actually stepped out for this fun afternoon on friday, but you know, details. Harper and i headed to seattle for an afternoon of holiday fun with some local bloggers and their kiddos and it was awesome!
first we swooped up Kat (she really is losin’ it) and the three of us headed north to downtown seattle to Macy’s santaland. we met up with a few amazing ladies – Jenny (you know, on the spot?), Marie (make and takes), allison (no time for flashcards), lyndsey (the stationery place), tammy (tammy’s two cents) and louise (momstart) – where our kiddos got their photos taken with santa (Harper’s 3rd time this year – ha). we even all hopped in for a group photo. it was so cute – all the reindeer were there and everything!
after that we headed out to grab some coffee and cocoa and treats. if you want to see some people try and burn you with their eyeballs alone, take a gaggle of kids into a downtown seattle coffee shop and order drinks for them and their mamas. i couldn’t help but giggle. sorry kidless patrons of seattle’s best – but we had fun!
when we were all set with our cups of holiday yumminess (the kids cocoa had whip cream, white chocolate shavings AND a chocolate stick – Harper was in love), we headed over to ride the carousel! Harper had never been on one, and watching her experience it was awesome. first she was realllly excited, then half way through she got a little unsure, then at the end she was back to having a BLAST. so much so that she threw an absolute tantrum when we got off – she wanted to go again soooo badly.
kat talks H down from the ledge about the carousel – man, she was INTO it.
a huge thanks to Jenny and Macy’s for putting together such a fun afternoon. H had a blast! and for being a total sickie, i had a lot of fun mahself.
today was a good day. i didn’t even have to use my a-k.
but seriously, playdate! consignment shopping! cocoa! let’s try to forget the fact that one of the dogs (the one that can SEE) decided to eat cat poop in front of our guests and my child has become the worlds worst listener in the history of non-listeners (toddlers are small terrorists, i tell you that with complete certainty)(also, please pass some wine). yes, let us forget those things and focus on five dollar pink minnetonka mocs and furry jackets, shall we now?
it’s safe to say i am jealous of both.
fiona took some adorable photos of the girls on our stop for cocoa. hide yo ovaries, hide yo…ovaries again.
fiona? she has the mad photo skillz. this one is just begging to be in a frame. and i shall grant its wish!
the best part about this photo (as if you could pick one) is that the horse wasn’t even going.
Harper’s birthday was what i would imagine to be a perfect day for a three year old. at least, we hope we made it that way for her. we all ended up exhausted and happy at the end of the day, so i’m calling it a smashing success.
Scot was able to take the day off (insert YAY here), so we decided to make Harper’s birthday morning extra special. sunday night after she went to bed, we sat in our living room and blew up (with our mouths no less) 100 balloons. about an hour and 4 burning lungs later, we transferred them upstairs, turned off all the lights and snuck them into her room while she was sleeping. a much harder feat than it sounds, let me tell you. but, we did it. in the dark. the next morning? this:
birthday had begun! she had preschool, so she dressed up in last years gnome costume (how ironic – the gnome costume still fits our little lady) and we took her to school, where they had a party, treats and lots of halloween art to be made. they also celebrated H’s birthday.
p.s., she drew a face on her pumpkin and Scot carved it out. “he has big teef!”.
her birthday crown that she made at preschool. rad.
after we picked her up, we came home and toasted pumpkin seeds and played in her balloon room (again), then we all took a nap to get rested up for trick or treating. like i said the other day, my mom made Harper’s costume this year and it turned out so adorable. we headed to uptown to trick or treat with GG, Auntie Bree, Doug & Holly & Nora, and Fiona, Jeff, Elle and baby Brynn. all the stores hand out candy and there are activities for the kiddos. bonus: it was sunny and gorgeous out! holy lucky batman.
after all the buckets were full of candy, we headed out for some pizza with our friends and then headed home to play with a few new toys and play in the balloon room (again). we ended the evening with a pretty pink cupcake for the new three year old and then we all collapsed into bed after a wonderful day.
thank you to everyone who sent well wishes for a happy birthday our way! despite a few tantrums and bad mood moments (three is going to be FUN!), the day was full of fun and i couldn’t have asked for more for our little lady. hope you all had a wonderful Halloween, too!
the other night we went to a bbq to celebrate a good friend’s birthday. Barham wanted everyone to bring their own version of a slider and we could have a gourmet slider-off. well, it wasn’t a competition (but it so totally was). kids, dogs, wine, champagne in cans (it exists! and comes with a straw attached! there is a god!) and many delicious sliders. i’m still thinking about a few of them…
oh snaps!
i didn’t take any photos of the sliders because i was way too busy ingesting them. Scot and i made beef sliders with feta and garlic in the patty, then topped them with garlic mayo, an olive tapenade we made with kalamata olives and a thin slice of cucumber. holler!
Holly and Doug made 2 different kinds (again, not a competition but it was clear they were totes in competition with each other). Holly’s was a beef burger with gouda, a slice of green apple and some honey mustard. i’m not a fan of fruit and meat together (i know, i know) but this was delish. Doug’s burger was also beef, with tomato, lox and cream cheese. that was amazing.
Bree and Barham’s burger was glorious – a lamb burger, wrapped in prosciutto (before cooking), topped with arugula and tomato. drool.
the whole evening was awesome, full of good friends, clearly delicious food and enjoying the nice evening weather before Fall officially pushes us all indoors. happy birthday Barham!
