things i love thursday :: baggino

Posted on | February 4, 2010 | 11 Comments

mom confession: i can’t stand it when Harper gets food all over her clothes. i know, clothes can be washed and all that. i know.  but i just cringe when food is falling into her lap, making little mushy homes on her pants or shirt, and no matter how high i roll up her sleeves, the food still manages to get on them. i know, get over it right? well, no. i’m not gonna. instead? i’m going to use my new Baggino bib pretty much forever and ever. so there.

the baggino learner bibs? awesome. the bib is made of soft cotton terry and has long sleeves and the front is extra long. think food-catching snuggie for babies. it velcros in the back and has elastic on the cuffs so food can’t sneak in. when H is done eating, i just remove it, dump the dropped food in the sink and toss in the washing machine. super plus? it’s cute!

it doubles as an art smock, so as soon as i get over my fear of Harper eating art supplies, and she gets over her desire to do it, we will use it for that, too.

Baggino has other great products, including a convertible diaper bag that you can clip on like a belt during changings in say, a target bathroom or nordies lounge. watch the demo, it looks amazing. i would probably do some sort of wild west reenactment with one of these bad boys. seriously, want.

and this, i love. right now, through the end of february, Baggino is donating 50% of their sales to the relief efforts in Haiti. just because it is on the news less and less doesn’t mean they don’t still need our help. if you’re in the market for new bibs, a diaper bag, even an insulated bottle bag, please consider buying them through Baggino.  help Haiti and get great products. win win in my opinion.

Baggino sent me this bib at no charge in exchange for review. no monetary compensation was received for this review.

things i love thursday :: brussel sprouts

Posted on | January 28, 2010 | 13 Comments

B russel sprouts, you ask? those yucky little tiny head-of-cabbage looking buggers that is the ultimate of cliches about not liking veggies? oh yes my friends. oh yes.

my love affair with the b.s. (pardon me if i keep using this during the whole post. it is not only shortening up the word brussel sprouts, but is also making me giggle) started many many years ago. my family has always prepared them cut in half and sauteed in garlic and butter until golden around the edges, a bit crunchy, but not too. delish.

this week i have been cooking my arse off and i wanted to make something with some b.s. i consulted my good friend google and found hundreds of recipes for pasta with b.s. they were all a little different, but all pretty much contained the same main ingredients: b.s., bacon, pasta and cheese. i know, right? the motherload.

the following recipe is not any of those. i made it by doing what i normally do with b.s. and just threw it on some pasta. seriously.

here is your shopping list:

  • um, brussel sprouts. as many as you’d like, really.
  • one box of rigatoni
  • BACON (since i like easy, mine was the hormel already-cooked and made into bits kind, found in the salad dressing aisle).
  • parmesan cheese, shredded
  • butter
  • minced garlic

cut your new little friends into halves (or quarters if they are on the large side). saute them in butter and minced garlic over low-medium heat while you cook your pasta. you want them at a nice happy medium between crunchy and mushy. like i said, golden on the edges. in the last few minutes throw in the bacon crumbles.

i literally tossed the rigatoni in butter, salt and black pepper and called it a day. top with the delicious brussel sprout/bacon concoction and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.

i’m definitely not seeing the part where it could get any easier. i ate an embarrassing amount. so simple. won’t you make friends with brussel sprouts?

p.s. monday is the big day! have you entered to win a spunky stork gift certificate yet? if not, go! and stay tuned for squee-worthy news regarding a Harper & Spunky Stork joint venture…

things i love thursday :: eco-friendly baby wear

this giveaway is now closed. the winner was Becca, comment number 77!

i tend to get really excited about giveaways. true, true, i’ve only had a few, but i still really enjoy getting a chance to give my readers something cool and fun. this is no exception. you may have already seen the Spunky Stork button on my blog, and hopefully you’ve already clicked on it and checked out all the cute, fun, 100% organic cotton clothing.

they were kind enough to send Harper the adorable lavender “love” long sleeved onesie (someday the little nugget will graduate to toddler tees…). it’s not only cute, but super soft and environmentally conscious. and with tons of other fun colors and sayings, you may find it hard to choose which one(s) to buy. next up on my list is the joint production onesie. so clever!

to add insult to injury (the injury being the hurting you’ll want to put on your wallet, and the insult being the cool thing i’m going to say next that will help you justify it), the shipping is free on all orders (to the US). and if you’re giving your purchase as a gift, please don’t even get me started on the cute options for gift wrapping (because seriously? the crib? i die).

the Spunky Stork has graciously offered a $27 gift certificate (the price of almost every onesie and t-shirt, and herro! shipping is free!) to one HH reader. squee!

to enter, leave a comment on this post.

for additional entries, do the following and come back and leave another comment for each. (that part is super important so each comment counts as an entry):

winner will be chosen at random on Monday, February 1st. get to gettin’ friends, ’cause this one’s a goodie!

p.s. try not to squee as loud as i did when i noticed Harper is the baby model pictured for the lavender long sleeved onesie.
