this weekend is pretty rad so far. saturday we went to Elle’s birthday party and it was fantastic. Harper insisted on wearing sparkly shoes because it was a party. girlfriend already knows that parties call for sparkles. i didn’t even teach her that. ::side eye:: anywho, when i told H that Elle was 2, she yelled “WE AREN’T THE SAME?!” and was really distraught for a bit. nothing a little waffle bar followed by cake before noon couldn’t fix.

Scot and i stepped out to a dinner party (doesn’t that sound so grown up? i assure you it isn’t) at Bree and Barhams where we they made some amazing ramen noodles and we all played cranium.

let me tell you about how good of a team Barham and i are. last year at a similar party at our house we were teammates and on our turn, i was supposed to draw Picasso for him to guess. i drew a mans head, with a big ear, and an X through it with an arrow like it was falling off. he yelled “PICASSO!” and we totally won even though i drew Van Gough. the drawing still hangs on our fridge because it was that ridiculous.

last night we teamed up again and at one point i was supposed to hum “stand by me” for him to guess. i hummed “lean on me” loud and clear for a good 60 seconds and he yelled “STAND BY ME!”. we did it again. wrong song. i’m pretty sure our fellow players are sick of winning things by just thinking the same things are something else. hilarious.

this morning there is snow outside! i thought we wouldn’t see any this year with the temps we’ve been having. annnnywho, hope you are all in the midst of a wonderful and relaxing weekend. i see some thrifting in my future.

This week.

this week went by pretty quickly! but we had a gloomy kiddo on our hands because Scot was back to work after a glorious week off. she’s been telling me how much she misses him, and asking when he’s coming home allll day. so sweet. we got out of the house a few times, but she was kind of a terror in the evenings, most likely letting us know her disapproval of all of it. she has been whipping out some great gems though.

“i tooted in my bed last night while you guys were sleeping.”

“mommy, we should go to outer space this year”.

“there’s a parking spot over there – let’s take it from everybody” <—soooo funny

she’s also been requesting Adele EVERYTIME we get in the car, but it has to be rolling in the deep, and she yells “LET’S ROCK IT OUT GIRL!” and proceeds to do the cutest dance ever for the entirety of the song. she usually finishes off with “that was my jam!”.

she has also become obsessed with wearing only undies around the house. with her gnome hat and shoes from her costume from last year. couple it with a belly full of dora temporary tattoos from a present from gg santa, and you have, well, magic.

what i’m saying is, she is the funniest, best ever.

this week on the blog, i announced this years Bloggers for Babies team. i set a team goal of $3000 (last year we did $2400 for the babehs!) and it would mean A LOT to me if you’d consider donating to this amazing cause. if you each donated even a dollar, we’d reach our goal in no time. also, locals, don’t forget to sign up to walk with us!

around the internet, i’ve been loving on these:

// we have started our eating plan again (yay! and boo!) and i’ve been drinking this water like it’s going out of style. so yummy and perfect for people like me who have a hard time drinking water.

// my pal Jen wrote a great post about how she’s simplifying her blog in the new year. i think she feels the way many bloggers do, and it was a really refreshing read.

// jumping entirely too ahead of myself (per usual), i’ve been pinning home decor inspiration like a mad woman.

// my good friend Stacy is doing a v-day mini session. i’m gonna sign up for one for Harper.

// speaking of love day, wanting to make a few of these cute valentines ideas! the “you’re the bomb” one is too much.

// more local goodness: if you need a cut or color (or want to try some ombre like i did!), give Carly a call, she’s having a great deal for the new year.

// Jess is making the CUTEST blog freebies. she is so talented and i love her style.

// Katie is having a baby! eeeeeeeeeeee!

// and finally,  i put some more goodies up in the Shop My Closet – along with some things from Harper’s wardrobe as well!

i’m really looking forward to this weekend, and sharing it with you guys soon. secret squirrel mission! i think we are stepping out tonight, so i’ll see you guys tomorrow for a SOS post. ::finger guns::

#JANphotoaday

Posted on | January 4, 2012 | 22 Comments

one of my personal goals this year is to challenge myself. in small ways, in big. i thought i’d start with a photo project, that i found over at Fat Mum Slim. it’s only a month, so i can totally commit. these types of challenges are hard for me because i’m forgetful, a procrastinator and i lose interest in such things quickly. but it’s only a month. and i need to use my camera more often. so i’m a few days late posting, but i wanted to catch up and encourage you guys to hop on board, too!

here is the plan as laid out by the lovely Chantelle:

i’m excited! of course i’m always excited at the start of something fun and new, but dangit imma do this this time. wanna play? head over to Fat Mum Slim to check out her original post. and if you decide to blog it like i am, link below in the comments, i’d love to follow along!

i don’t have instagram, but you can play along on there and twitter and use the #janphotoaday hashtag. happy photo-ing, yo.

p.s. take a picture of the list on your phone so you have it with you everywhere. ::high kick::

A Year in Haps.

Posted on | December 22, 2011 | 16 Comments

i’ve never really done a year in review on the blog and this year i thought it would be fun. looking back through my posts was a pretty fun journey – it made me realize how much we’ve really done in the past 12 months and how thankful i am for the opportunities and fun times i’ve been given. i’m so lucky to have this space to be myself and have friends/readers (same difference!) like you guys. some of you have been around here since day one and that is pretty freaking awesome. 2011 in my blogworld had lots of ups and downs – lots of reflection, questioning, and looking inward – and i’m happy to end the year on a positive note, knowing that this is what i’m supposed to be doing and doing it my way.

i ended 2010 sick, tired and ready for a new year. and what a kick ace year it has been. shall we?

two thousand eleven, y’all!

the first month of the year brought our farewell to the binkie. hard to believe we started the year with a 2 year old in diapers who used a binkie and ended with a potty trained three year old who knows the words to Cee-lo’s Forget You. love that kid.

february my mama turned 60 (so i embarrassed both her and me by posting some amazing old photos of us on the internet!). our friend Doug turned nerdy thirty, and i kicked off Mama Style with one of my lovely friends Melissa. (more Mama Style coming soon!)

march was busy – first i surprised my mom in las vegas and we had a blast celebrating her big birthday. the loverly Stacy Jacobsen took some family photos for us and Harper and i tried our hand at vlogging. then Scot mocked me and it was awesome.

in april the lil’ nugget had her half birthday, i posted photos of myself in a muumuu on the world wide web, and Harper met dora at the spring fair. also, the day i had put months of work into happened, as a group of bloggers walked for the March of Dimes after raising over $2400 (THANK YOU). that day was AWESOME and i cannot wait to put together next years bloggers for babies!

may! may we went on our first food tour, Harper got her very first brain freeze, and the Haps got a rad makeover. oh yeah, and i turned 30 and had the best birthday party ever, which included my BIFF (best internet friend forever) Mae flying in from florida for less than 48 hours. best. birthday. ever.

june we broke out the kiddie pool! Scot turned 28! my friend Josie got married and Kenny from Smonk You busted up into Mama Style. awkward.

in july we headed to the gorge to see Soundgarden with our friends (chris cornell FTW). Harper got obsessed with CHAPSTICK whilst i got obsessed with mason jars and succulents. we floated around getting sunburns (well me anyways).

august was cray cray. i went to blogher for the second time. my best friend got married and we were all in the wedding! Scot and i celebrated our 5 year anniversary and headed off to Mexico to do nothing but eat and sleep. august ruled so hard.

september, this little biscuit basket started pre-school. i freaked out (naturally). Steppin’ Out Saturday turned one year old (whaaaat?) and a few friends and i coordinated the first PNW Bloggers Meetup and it was a smashing success!

Harper turned three in october!we started potty training a few weeks before her birthday, which was trying. but we did it! it took a bit of perspective to get us through it. she was the most adorable little snow white for halloween and had a kick ace birthday.

november we headed to yakima for a wonderful thanksgiving with Scot’s family. Harper got to see yo gabba gabba live for the second time and toy story on ice. and she showed off her style like a pro a few times. legwarmers!

this month has been pretty awesome so far – full of christmas fun and family activities. we got our tree, went on the polar express, and spent some time getting our holiday on with friends in seattle. bring it on christmas!

i’m practically giddy to start a new year. so many things on the horizon, the year ahead has so much potential to be a great one. i hope you guys have fond memories to look back on in 2011 and even if not so much, hey, kick it to the curb ’cause 2012 is almost here. here’s to hoping 2012 is the year i finally figure out how to make a saddle for my pug to ride my french bulldog. ::fingers crossed::
