NURSERY TOUR

*psst! we are in the middle of making Harper’s nursery a “big girl” room. soon i will post all the new photos, it’s looking completely different already!

welcome to Harper’s nursery! since i wasn’t bloggin’ here when H came along, i never got to make a pretty post about her room that we worked so hard to create. i often get emails and comments after posting a photo of her room asking about various items, so i thought it would be doubly fun to make a nursery tour. i would have done it video style but well, my voice annoys to me to no end on camera and this way you can just read my commentary. :] i hope you guys enjoy.

welcome!

Scot and i worked diligently to make this room a fun and soothing place for Harper to call home. i will never forget the hours we spent on it and times i sat in here before she came just folding and refolding things and wondering what she’d be like.

guard dogs.

we bought these prints through etsy seller brian rubenacker and they could not look more like lulu and stella. we knew (hoped) that H would have a great bond with them and so we got these for her room. i love them!

i heart this rug. we got it from Target and it’s supposed to be a bear, but it’s up for debate. it looks like it could be a hippo or a big. so we just call it the hippobearapig rug. it’s huge and awesome.

i love all the tiny touches that her room holds. special things from special people fill her nursery, and that is important to me. i made 2 of those pillows (the bird and the fawn one) in my first attempts at crafting. the owlie pillow was made by my friend emily. the bookshelf (which is old, and we repainted) holds favorite books, cute trinkets from family, an awesome piggybank (from target) and photos of her as a tiny baby. a CD player sits on top that plays her favorite lullabies every night as she goes to sleep.

this ikea shelf above the changing table is a lifesaver. we put little baskets that hold everything from socks to diaper creme to binkies to thermometers. but of course there is still room for the cute. i downloaded this cute print from feed your soul, and put it in a frame from ross. the lamp is also from ikea and the adorable cat? an amazing gift from my MIL and her trip to Paris.

my very favorite corner (uh, minus the diaper pail…heh). my mom refinished this glider and then sewed the cover, and she also knitted that yellow blanket for Harper. she made me one just like it when i was a baby, but in rainbow yarn and i still have it. the “H” we got at michaels and painted white. we bought the wall decal on etsy and i couldn’t be more thrilled with it. it came with enough birds so that they are sprinkled around the room, perched atop various things or flying around (see the little guy on the window sill? he’s my favorite buddy). i found a cute birdcage hook at joann’s and placed it so it looks like it’s hanging from the branch.

these paper lanterns are by martha stewart’s party decor line. meh. it’s always a party in Harper’s room. i love what they add to the space. “all because two people fell in love” plaque is from target (sensing a theme here? my husbands wallet sure does).

Scot’s favorite project was making Harper;s name above her crib. i wanted something a little less common, and he did an amazing job. we ordered plain wooden letters online and got the moulding and corner pieces from home depot. painted it all white and he cut to make the frame. since i’m not a dude, i don’t know the logistics of how it’s on there, but if you really need to know i’m sure i can ask him. :]

because i get wild hairs, Harper must often succumb to my crafting experiments. this is the first clippy holder i made (i’ve improved since then) and a few canvases i painted and decorated with paper and buttons.

Harper’s room has definitely changed a little as she has grown and her needs and likes have changed, but i can say it’s my favorite room in the house. it’s where i rocked her as a newborn, changed tiny diapers and have watched a crib go from the highest setting to the lowest. i’ve sat on the floor and gotten teary while i put away newborn clothes, listened to the humming of her sleep sheep just to watch her sleeping. i still remember vividly peeking in when Scot was painting and yet here we are. so many things ahead of us in this room.
