this week was a rollercoaster. we started off sick, thought we were all getting better, then realized no, we’re still sick. actually i’m still not sure if we’re sick or just worn down with allergies or something. whatever the duece is going on i’d really like it to stop because we’ve got stuffs to do and hopefully some spring weather to enjoy. germs are jerks. as is pollen.
the highlight of the week was the big girl bed transition which continues to be mostly a success. yesterday around 11 am she went upstairs “to hang out and read in my bed”. after a few minutes it was pretty quiet so i headed up to see what i’d find (thinking clothes tornado or coloring on the walls was on the menu) and there she was in her bed, eyes droopy. i asked her what she was doing and she said “i love my new bed. i kiss it a lot sometimes.” all drunk like and then passed out. i don’t even know. 11 in the morning?!
my love affair with instagram continues. bingo-ing all over the place this week with food, coffee, sleeping kid and…more food. follow the madness @teammandy.
i hope everyone has a great weekend, and here is to a much better week next week. don’t forget to enter to win my Oreck giveaway if you haven’t already! TGIFF, yo.

apparently it’s been 2 weeks. again. Harper and i had an amazing day last week where we had a pretty good thrifting adventure on our ladydate. remember the story about the toddler bed? well tuesday was the big day. the crib came down, the toddler bed went up (after a thorough disinfecting of all surfaces and tightening of all screws by the dude of the house). the excitement from the little one was out of this world. i was terrified, sad, a tiny bit excited – it was bittersweet. but mostly terrifying – she can just…get out.
anyways, i think this is one of the better thrifting finds (and stories) i’ve ever had!

i got the sheet from pottery barn, her comforter was a gift from Silky’s Cloud last year (we LOVE it, the filling is silk and hypoallergenic), the pilowcase and quilted pillow were thrifted and the blanket on the end is actually a tiny sleeping bag that i got at an antique store. the pattern is one of the cutest things i’ve ever seen.
so how did the first night go? it took her about an hour to actually go to sleep. i’m sure after we closed the door it hit her like a ton of bricks that she was freeeeee to get up and move about the cabin like a boss. we could hear her and she was most certainly out of the bed. i braced myself for a tornado of clothes, toys and a small child asleep in front of the door – but when it got quiet and i peeked in? all i could see was her tiny head, in bed, peeking out from the comforter. and then i cried. BUT WHATEVER I’M SURE THAT’S NORMAL.
the next morning at 8:15 she yelled “mommmmmy i’m awake!” and when i opened the door she was sitting there in her bed. naked, but in bed (homegirl cannot keep clothes on these days for the life of her). we had a massive high five and knucks party and went on with our day. naptime was as successful – just some roaming around, disrobing, and then passed out in the bed.
(don’t worry, i’m well aware that as time passes there will be a small child in our bed, staring at me while i’m sleeping, trying to get cookies from the pantry, etc etc etc. but JUST LET ME HAVE THIS RIGHT NOW OK ::crylaughs::)

my heart pretty much can’t take anymore excitement this week. this photo alone nearly killed me.
link up your thrifty finds posts (URL to the direct post please!) and hop around to see everyone elses second hand finds! grab a button if it floats your boat. and see you in 2 weeks for another HOTT (stillllll funny).

this giveaway is now closed! the winner was Emily. thanks to everyone for entering!

i always have a really hard time starting off posts where i talk about something awesome that i am now completely borderline obsessed with (code orange). i’m always afraid that i’m going to sound like i’m selling something and it’s really hard to portray how much i like something without sounding really gung-ho and using lots of exclamation points!!! i feel especially silly when the thing i’m totally freaking out over is used to suck the dirt out of my carpets. but here we are.
and i am totally freaking out over this vaccum cleaner from Oreck.
the thing is, our vacuum prior to this glorious piece of machinery smelled and sounded like it was going to catch right the hell on fire every time we used it. i liked to imagine it was sucking up all the stuff, but the truth was it wasn’t. and we are dealing with a toddler, 2 dogs (one of whom sheds like a mofo) and a long haired cat. the dirt, it is dirty.
i was skeptical when i pulled the Oreck Magnesium out of the box – it’s really light and almost feels like a toy. but i was shocked to find that it worked – better than any vacuum i’ve ever owned. this is what happens when you buy the cheapest vacuum you can get instead of investing in a nice one. once you try a legit one you wonder how much nasty stuff your cheapie has been leaving behind (spoiler alert: a lot). truly, our carpets have never looked better after vacuuming, to the point where Scot and i both want to vacuum – it’s a sickness and i blame Oreck.
a few of my favorite features on the Mag (we’re on a nickname basis now): it’s so lightweight – we have stairs and carrying it up to do the second level is so easy now. it unfolds completely flat, perfect for under the bed (um, someday when there isn’t stuff under there?) and little tables, the couch, etc. also the cord is really long so i can do the entire floor with out having to switch outlets. glorious.

get in there.
the only thing i don’t love is it does use a bag. luckily you can buy them online and there is an Oreck store in the next town over from us. honestly the bag doesn’t even bother me that much after using the vacuum for a few weeks, because it works so well the trade off is fine (the one we had before was a canister that we had to empty and it was gross anyhow). another thing that could be a plus or a minus depending on what you prefer is that there are no attachments. but you can buy a package that includes this bad boy, which is awesome (or you could win them down there…just saying).
this little guy also uses a bag (cute little bag is cute) and has a bunch of attachments and a super crazy extended hose. i use this on the stairs, the couch and along the baseboards. it’s got a little shoulder strap so you can just shimmy around the house cleaning the crap out of it. best ever. bonus: long cord as well.
since Oreck is so awesome they want to give one reader of the Haps a chance to win this same get up that they gave me: a Magnesium with a little Ultimate Handheld on the side (a $599.99 value – hey-o!). a combo of cleaning glory that you will love, future winner.
there are a few ways to enter!
>> the first and mandatory entry is to head over to Oreck and comment here on one thing you learned about the Magnesium.
if you’d like some extra chances to win, here are some more. please leave a separate comment for each that you do:
o Follow @oreck on Twitter.
o Like Oreck on Facebook.
o Sign up for Oreck’s email list by clicking on “Sign up for Email” in the top navigation bar and entering your email address.
that’s it! then of course you’re going to want to cross your fingers.
the giveaway winner must be a resident of the 48 contiguous states (argh, sorry!) and Oreck kindly provided me with these products. Oreck Corporation provided the prize for the sweepstakes but is not the sponsor of the sweepstakes.
entries will be accepted until thursday, april 26th at midnight PST. i’ll announce the winner the following day. good luck!

on Harper >> kitty shirt: h&m // purple jeggings: target // shoes: target. on me >> top: f21 // green pants: target // leopard flats: thrifted //watch: target // bangle: f21
this weekend we stayed in! but we had Bree and Barham over for snacks, drinks and game night. earlier in the day my mom, Harper and i hit the mall while Scot was working and this kitten shirt was a must have (and for $4.95 i could not say no. never say no to kitties).
let’s just address the elephant in the room and acknowledge that yes, i look a bit christmasy in this get up. luckily in person, the shirt is coral and white, not red and white, but i think it’s close enough to maybe not do this combo again? a bit candycane looking especially with the BRIGHT GREEN PANTS. lesson learned. besides, now i have the perfect christmas eve outfit, 8 months ahead of time.
p.s. cutest watering can evar, in the target dollar bin section. also, kitty trying to photobomb.
so! we made some snack plates (pita, hummus, peppers, olives, feta, artichoke hearts – you know, the good stuff) and got stuff for bloody marys and after the kiddo was all good to go in bed, we busted out settlers of catan and got our settling on.
a good time was had by all. unfortunately, Harper woke up in the middle of night with a fever and is not feeling well at all. i have the sore back of the throat thing happening and i’m pretty sure we are in for an un-fun couple of days ahead of us all. i can only hope if it does hit us all that it’s the last sickness of the season.
so, i’m off to cuddle. hope you guys are in the midst of a great weekend with no fevers or sore throats!
